Long delays at Weldon roadworks.

If you are intending to do the walk from Kings Cliffe this coming Thursday please allow around an extra 30 minutes for your journey if you are using the A43 due to horrific delays at Weldon roadworks.

Road Walking Reminder.

The committee have worked hard over the last few years to try and maintain high standards of discipline when walking on roads with no footpath as per the Highway Code i.e walk in single file facing on oncoming traffic."
Comments have been made that this is not always being adhered to on some walks particularly where new walkers are doing their first walk.
Having walked with other groups I know that some of them are not as concerned as we are about this issue and this may be why new walkers tend to be a bit more relaxed if they too walk with other groups.

Could I ask all walk leaders when new walkers join their walks that they explain our policy in this respect and that other walkers may remind them of the need to stay in single file if requested to do so.

Could I also take this opportunity to remind all walkers of the need to adhere to the requirement to walk in single file if requested to do so and not wander all over the road. I know we all love to chat and it is difficult to do when in single file but you know it makes sense to do so.
David H.
Chairman KDRC.

Rambles Secretary

Gloria S has decided to step down as Rambles Secretary after completion of the 2019 Summer card and the club requires a replacement for this important position which includes membership of the committee.

The main duties involved occur twice a year and are as follows:-

Around February/September each year, approach potential walk leaders to fill programme card for the next 6 months. Weekend walks mostly take place on alternate Saturday/Sunday, the week when there is not a Thursday walk. (Summer card runs from beginning of May to end of October, Autumn/Winter card from beginning of November to end of April)

Once dates are filled, forward details to Sarah S, who will type the programme card and publicity leaflet. Liaise with Sarah as to the date this information is required.  Printing is done at Bishop Stopford School,so there is a need to be aware of school closures, particularly at Easter for printing of Summer Card.

Sarah will then

·         Prepare labels from the membership register.

·         Purchase enveloped

·         "Stuff” envelopes

·         Arrange for envelopes to be distributed

·         Enter (weekend) rambles on to website (inform Sarah of any changes/cancellations of rambles) for updating on website

Ideally, delivery of forthcoming card, should be completed at least two weeks prior to the first ramble on programme.

If you are interested in taking on this important role in the club please contact the chairman via his normal contact details.
