Saturday June 17th "Peak Border" Walk Report.

On what proved to be the hottest  day of the year so far 7 hardy souls set out from Kettering station for a journey to Cromford on the edge of the Peak District. With only one steep climb they were indeed fortunate in the choice of route as the Peak District is not short of severe undulations.
Proceeding via Cromford Wharf and canal ( historical note: Cromford Mill was the world’s first successful water powered cotton spinning mill and was built in 1771 by Sir Richard Arkwright and is said by many to be the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution). Plenty of wildlife was to be seen along the canal.
Their route then took them via Ambergate to Belper where a very nice lunch was had at the Hurt Arms.
The route then took them to the river gardens in Belper where the walk finished with an ice cream.
In view of the temperatures peaking at 27 Deg. C and after walking 11 miles never was ice cream more richly deserved.
Thanks to Steven T for organising and leading the walk and to Julie S for acting as back marker
