20th October Walk Report.

24 members had a really enjoyable walk in Autumn sunshine albeit with what was at time a chilly breeze. We set off from the Exeter Arms at Barrowden for an out and back walk to Tixover church which sits in splendid isolation from the village of the same name. We had a good look round the church and had a leisurely banana break before returning for lunch at the pub which overlooks the village green and duckpond. Barrowden is a most attractive village and is well worth a visit.
Thanks to Richard for a lovely walk in what was new territory for most of the walkers.
The next KDRC walk will be on Saturday 22nd October and will be lead by David & Sarah (01536 510425).
Starting with the 9.21 am bus to Thrapston, walk to Higham Ferrers via Stanwick Lakes. 11 miles (8 mile option by taking bus back to Kettering from Nene Park) Lunch at Stanwick Lakes Café.

Club Weekend at Llangollen October 2016.

The club weekend took place from Friday 7th to Sunday 9th of October and was attended by 26 members.
This year it was held in Llangollen and organised in conjunction with Secret Hills, a company specialising in walking holidays. The base was The Hand Hotel which has a splendid position overlooking the river Dee.
Walks of two different levels took place over the three days which enabled everyone to experience the beautiful views of the area.
The hotel had entertainment each evening and some of our more musical members were encouraged to join In!
A great time was had by all.
Pictures to follow in next posting

A smashing walk in glorious autumn weather from the White Horse at Stoke Albany.
A good turnout of 24 walkers enjoyed glorious views over the Welland Valley.
Several people remarked that they had no idea how attractive the countryside was around the area.
An excellent lunch was enjoyed back at the White Horse wher fliers were handed out for the 80th anniversary celebrations
Thanks to Rosemary and Robert for leading a most enjoyable walk.
The next Thursday walk will be from the Exeter Arms at Barrowden on 20th October 2016 and wll be led by Richard.

Visit to Lyveden New Bield

On Saturday, 15th September, members of the Club gathered at Lyveden New Bield for a short walk in the nearby woods, prior to a visit to see the tree purchased in celebration of our 75th anniversary.  Part of the walk was on the Lyveden Way and the rest in Tresham's deer park.

After the walk we were joined by other Club members and went down to the Orchard planted with over 300 fruit trees of varieties known in the late 17th century which were grown mainly for their medicinal properties.  The Club's tree is a variety of apple called Golden Harvey.  Although the tree is still small, those who wished could taste its fruit as it had two small apples on it (the season has been poor this year in the whole of the orchard).  In future years we will be able to visit and, maybe, enjoy more of its produce!
